Values and Vision at Ridgefield Primary School
All children are different - they learn in different ways, they display different responses to different situations and our approach enables us to respond in a more personalised way to meet their individual needs.
At Ridgefield Primary School, we prioritise creating a positive and supportive environment for pupils, staff, and families. Our approach focuses on understanding the emotions and motivations behind behaviours, aiming to address their root causes rather than simply judging them.
We guide our pupils with a simple code of conduct: Be kind, Be safe, and Do your best. This reflects our commitment to promoting pro-social behaviours—actions that enhance community and support other people.
Pro-Social Behaviours (behaviours we want to encourage in our school)
We believe that positive feelings lead to positive actions. Staff members play a vital role in nurturing trust, actively listening, and modelling pro-social behaviours. We teach these behaviours through everyday interactions and dedicated lessons, helping pupils develop internal self-discipline.
Recognition is key; we reward pro-social acts — like helping others and showing kindness.
Supporting All Learners
Understanding that negative experiences can lead to negative behaviours, our staff transforms challenging situations into positive ones. We focus on reinforcing pro-social behaviours and providing tailored support to meet individual needs, ensuring equity for every pupil.
Managing Unsocial Behaviours and Anti-Social Behaviours
We differentiate between unsocial behaviours (where a child just does not respond or engage to others in a group) and anti-social behaviours (like calling out). Unsocial behaviours are manageable and addressed promptly, while anti-social behaviours require deeper understanding and support. Staff use professional judgement to respond effectively and stop things from getting out of hand.
Communication with Parents/Carers
Keeping parents informed about their child's behaviour is essential. Teachers strive to share both positive news and concerns. Communication includes clear descriptions of incidents, consequences, and involved staff.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities are shared among all:
At Ridgefield Primary School, we aim to create a nurturing environment that fosters emotional well-being and positive behaviour, helping every child thrive.
