Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Ridgefield Primary School, we are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment where every child is valued, respected and supported to thrive. We recognise that each child is unique, and we celebrate the rich diversity that our pupils bring to the school community.

Our approach to SEND is guided by the belief that all children have the right to access high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that meet their individual needs. We aim to ensure that every child, including those with additional needs, can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

Our SEND provision is led by our SENCO,  who works closely with pupils, families, staff and external agencies to ensure early identification of needs, tailored support, and a collaborative, child-centred approach. We follow the graduated response as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (2015), providing personalised support through quality first teaching, targeted interventions, and, where appropriate, Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

We support pupils across the four broad areas of need:

  • Communication and Interaction

  • Cognition and Learning

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health

  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs

Through inclusive classroom practice, accessible learning environments and a strong focus on pupil voice, we strive to remove barriers to learning and ensure all children can access the full curriculum. Our staff are regularly trained in SEND best practice and supported to embed inclusive strategies that benefit all learners.

Our aim is to equip every child with the confidence, skills and independence to succeed both in school and beyond. We work in partnership with families to ensure that together, we create the best possible outcomes for every pupil.
