Book Week 2017: 27th February – 2nd March

Monday 27th February 2017

Today we had an assembly that was hosted by Luke Oakes from the Cambridge Central Library. He introduced us to the new books for ‘Read It Again’. We will read all these new books and will vote on our favourite. All the books were an author’s first written and drawn picture book. We liked the look of The Star Tree by Catherine Hyde and Little One by Joe Weaver.

Tuesday 28th February 2017

Mrs Melis read us a story called ‘The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish’ by Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman. It was about a boy who swapped his dad for his friend’s two goldfish. Will he get his dad back?

Then, we went to different classes to read with our reading buddies: Nursery-5T, Reception-6K, 1D-3T, 2M-4ER.

Wednesday 1st March 2017

Today we had an assembly with author/illustrator Matty Long. He showed us some books and we had to find things in the stories. He also read us a book he wrote when he was in Year 3.

After that, he went to every class in KS2 to do a workshop. When he came to 6K, he showed us how to draw lots of characters from his book ‘Super Happy Magic Forest’. The book was last year’s ‘Read It Again’ winner. We drew Trevor the Mushroom, Blossom the Unicorn, pixies and flowers.
