6K at Addenbrooke's (VI): Blood Cancer Detectives

We Are Ridgefield 2018: 6K Investigates Careers in the NHS - Addenbrooke's Visit

We went lymphocyte (white blood cells) counting, with the aim of identifying how many there were of each of five different types. With this information, we could decide whether or not the patient might have leukemia (cancer of the blood cells).

Our cells were photographs, but the scientists and technicians at Addenbrooke's have to do the same job for real - they advise the front-line medical staff about their patients' conditions and help to save many lives.
