1B were inspired by the powerful ‘Night on the Bare Mountain’ by Modest Mussorgsky. This piece tells the story of of the one night in the year during which the witches and wizards gather for a wicked party.
The children loved the fast-paced and exciting music at the beginning of the piece which made them think of witches arriving on the rugged mountain, gathering around their cauldrons and preparing for a night of wild spell-casting. They also wanted to incorporate the orchestra theme, with the head wizard conducting his orchestra of witches, casting them under his own spell. However, the party can only last for one night and, when the bell chimes to signify daybreak, the exhausted coven drag their weary bodies back home for a well-earned rest.
